This past weekend, we had the privilege of staying at the Pacific Beach Hotel Waikiki, soon christened as the “ʻAlohilani Resort.” Less than a mile from the famous Waikiki Beach, a ten-minute walk to shopping plazas and endless dining throughout its vicinity, the future that will be the new ʻAlohilani Resort is a promising one. Although we visited during their remodeling phase, we were able to get a sneak peak under the construction tarps and let us be the first to say: It’s going to be enchanting.
At the time of this writing, all rooms in both towers are finished with newly designed rooms, furniture, and all other minor upgrades that come with it. The few amenities that weren’t available were the (new) infinity pool, (new) lobby area, bar, and (new) Morimoto Restaurant.
If you’re staying in Waikiki, The Pacific Beach Hotel (future ʻAlohilani Resort) is at its heart. It is approximately 80 meters/200 feet away from the bikini ridden-tourist trouting Waikiki Beach. Easy access to the summer swells for surfing or a nice place for the kids to enjoy in one of the “ocean ponds.” Word of advice: To get proper seating, head to the beach early, say around 9 am – anything later, and it will become a hassle to reserve a nicely shaded spot.
Access to beaches, shopping, and restaurants is one thing but what good is accessibility when you don’t have a decent view of anything? The ʻAlohilani Resort sports a breathtaking view of Diamond Head for the Windward facing rooms (it feels much closer when inside the room) – no concrete obstruction blocking a view (at least, not on the 39th floor). The Leeward side bolsters the scenery of Waikiki Beach and most of the Southern coastline as far as Ewa on a clear day.
Last year, Japan captivated us with their ambrosial food. To say we were spoiled there with delicious, healthy, food might be an understatement. However, the “all-you-can-eat” breakfast buffet at the Lychee Restaurant, inside Pacific Beach Hotel, brought back memories of the uniquely flavored food we had in Japan. It had everything any age group desired for breakfast. A unique quality of this buffet was how it offered a few different items every morning. Whether it was different flavors of bacon or entirely new desserts, it is a sure place to have your taste buds go on a wild ride, just as Japan did for us.
All rooms are newly renovated: standard, partial ocean view, ocean view, diamond head and ocean view, and premier ocean front rooms are all available for you. We went with the Diamond Head and Ocean view room (39th floor). All rooms are non-smoking!
Our experience at the ʻAlohilani Resort was epic. Breathtaking views, fantastic and friendly staff which greeted us day in and day out without fail and delicious food from Lychee makes this a top stay if you’re planning a visit to Oahu. With multiple room selections to choose from, amenities galore, reasonable access to just about everything you need want or desire, and it’s location, I don’t see why anyone would choose another accommodation, honestly. Ideally located across the famous beaches of Waikiki, what’s not there to like about this beautiful resort?
